UI Confirms a Case of COVID-19
The management of the University of Ibadan has confirmed that a patient at the institution’s clinic has tested positive for COVID-19.
There have been reports of panic in the university community over the possible spread of the virus.
However, the management in a statement signed its Director of Public Communication, Olatunji Oladejo confirmed a case of COVID-19 in the institution.
He explained that immediately the COVID-19 case was confirmed, the Oyo State Emergency Operations Centre was notified and necessary steps had been taken.
According to him, the University community and the general public have been informed that a client who was first seen on 10 December and later admitted in the University Health Service (Jaja Clinic) overnight of 13/14 December tested positive to COVID-19.
He stated that officials from the Centre inspected the premises (Jaja Clinic), and made some recommendations among which is the Disinfection and Decontamination of premises which has been carried out, Follow-up of all those who had contact with the client by the EOC; and the Closure of the clinic.
He said Opening of the centre will be subject to review by the Oyo State Emergency Operation Centre (EOC).
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positive fellow is being attended to while the management of the institution enjoined members of the university community to stay safe by observing all recommended precautions to prevent disease and promote health.
