Two highway robbers shot dead in Ogun
Two suspected armed robbers, who are specialists in robbing luxury buses along Sagamu-Ore-Benin expressway, have on Thursday, June 8, been shot dead by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)
The officers attached to the Ogebere-Ijebu divisional headquarters of the force, in Ijebu east local government area of Ogun state, killed the robbers during a gun battle along the ever busy Sagamu - ore - Benin express way that connects neighbouring states together.
This expressway has recorded series of robbery attacks by men of the underworld.
Upon visiting the Police divisional headquarters, Ogbere, corpses of the two armed robbers were dumped in front of the police station. Three pump action rifles, two locally made pistols and machete that were recovered from them were also on the ground.
Some of the victims narrated their ordeals that the gun battle lasted for over two hours. They stated further that the robbers, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, blocked the ill-fated luxury bus with another 18 passenger bus and forcefully disembarked the vehicle.
Briefing journalists on the incident at Ogbere police station, the Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the police got information that robbery incident was going on at J4 Junction in Ogbere.
He added that on getting there, the robbers had fled the scene and the police traced them to the hideout inside the bush, where two of the robbers were shot dead and the other escaped with gunshot wound.
Abimbola Oyeyemi stressed that Ogun will not be a comfort zone for hoodlums, urging them to turn a new leaf or seek alternative abode.
