Senate probes murder of Nigerian in South African hotel
Worried by the increasing cases of death of Nigerians in South Africa, the Nigerian Senate has charged the South African Government to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Ndubuisi-Chukwwu, a Deputy Director-General of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
The matter was brought to the floor of the Red chamber in a motion by Senate Minority leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe during plenary.
In their contributions on the matter, a cross-section of senators condemned the incident in strong terms, even as they urged Nigeria to review its foreign policy.
In his remarks, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said this is one death too many and as such cannot be swept under the carpet.
The Senate also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to invite the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa and that of South Africa in Nigeria to appear before a high power committee.
