Rivers Community Remains in Total Blackout Since its Origin

An ancient community Kaani in Khana local government area of Rivers state is far from development as no visible electricity connection and other amenities that make life worth living is found in the area, with no hope of site development.

For over eighty years of existence, indigenes of Kaani community have experienced challenging situations and have become used to living in constant darkness with no health facilities as a result of lack of Government presence.

Many years ago the community had high hopes of power when the then Directorate for Food, Road and Rural Infrastructure(DFRRI) during the first tenure of the Ibrahim Babangida administration as the head of state mounted poles for electricity with no cables but abandoned the project.

Some members of the community expressed concern over their neglect by the government and other agencies who ought to have remembered them.

The paramount ruler attested to the fact that several letters have been written to NDDC to bring electricity to the community to no avail.

The pitiable condition of the people has really set the community backward compared to neighboring communities despite its proximity to the popular Bori town.

They also blamed their plight on the absence of their sons and daughters holding government positions which they claim has really set the community backward.
