Persons with Disabilities Protest Marginalization in Oyo Appointments
Aggrieved persons with disability on Monday barricaded all the access points into the Oyo State Secretariat Ibadan preventing workers from their duty posts and causing serious traffic gridlock.
The group who expressed displeasure over the recent recruitment process faulted the exercise which they stressed did not factor their plight in the process.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the aggrieved persons took their displeasure to the doorstep of the state government preventing workers from gaining access to their duty posts causing heavy traffic and grounding economic activities.
They lamented that life was hellish and brutish due to no viable source of livelihood.
They want the Oyo State government to review the process immediately before things get out of hand.
Reacting to the allegation, the Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Bisi Ilaka said the appointment was done on merit stating that the administration of Seyi Makinde will continue to uphold merit in all ramifications.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, TESCOM Mrs Grace Oderinde, who expressed surprise at the action of the protesters while addressing journalists, maintained that TESCOM has always been guided by the clear directive of Governor Seyi Makinde to be fair and unbiased to everyone with special care for persons living with disabilities in the state.
She stated that TESCOM acted in full compliance with the governor's directives by releasing 149 names out of the 150 approved by the governor for teaching service while another 50 has been shortlisted for non-teaching service jobs.
The protesting youths stood their ground even as all entreaties to make them see reason met a brick wall.
