Ogun Police Nab Man for Stabbing Mother-In-Law to Death
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command said they have arrested a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Ganiyu, for allegedly killing his mother-in-law, Abosede Oyewole.
He was said to have been arrested on the 3rd of May 2021.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a report made at Atan-Ota Divisional headquarters by one Odunayo Mathew.
He said Mathew had reported that the suspect, who is married to the daughter of the deceased, was fond of beating his wife on slight provocation.
Oyeyemi said on a fateful day, the suspect, as usual, had beaten up his wife and inflicted injuries on her, “and that is the reason why the deceased went to meet him in order to warn him to desist from beating her daughter.”
He, however, added that the suspect on sighting the deceased in his house, descended heavily on her, beat her mercilessly before stabbing her on her ribs with a knife.
He said the detectives embarked on an intelligence-based investigation, which led them to his hideout in Ikorodu, Lagos state where he was eventually apprehended.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminalinal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
