Five Hundred residents of Oyo State have benefited from the Grant for Rural Women Project initiated by the Federal Government.

The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq who made the disclosure during the flag-off of the Grants for Rural Women Project in Ibadan said about 14,021 poor and vulnerable households have benefited from the federal government conditional cash transfer programme.

The Special cash grant for rural women programme was introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development as part of President 

Speaking during the flag-off of the programme in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, the Minister,  Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq disclosed that the programme is aimed at lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

She charged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity to increase their income, enhance their food security and contribute towards improving their living standard.

Also, the Minister for Sports, Sunday Dare lauded the initiative adding that the grant is meant for beneficiaries who are Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by His Chief of Staff, Bisi Ilaka commended the federal government for the initiative adding that his administration remains committed to creating opportunities for everyone to live impactful lives.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social inclusion, Fausat Sanni appealed to the federal government to increase the number of beneficiaries from the state for the scheme.

Some of the beneficiaries commended the Government for the initiative and promised to make the best use of the grants.

Five hundred residents of the state benefitted from the #20,000 grant.
