EFCC investigates 18 senators
Reports on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), commencing the investigation of 18 senators for alleged fraud to the tune of N367.5b, have started making rounds since Tuesday, July 18.
According to reports, some of the lawmakers are currently being investigated, as seven are currently on trial while some of the cases were dated back to 10 years.
The cases against the members of the upper chamber in the Nigerian legislature are based on alleged fraud ranging from money laundering, misappropriation, unexecuted contracts, diversion of public funds to political campaigns, among others.
According to the fact-sheet of the EFCC leaked to the media, the cases against the lawmakers include two senators who are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the N19billion and $86million London-Paris Club refund in which seven governors have been implicated.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filling this report, the Nigerian Senate, is yet to respond to this latest report of Senators being enmeshed in a fresh round of corruption scandal.
