Constitution Review: Bauchi Gov Calls for Devolution of Powers to States, LGAs
Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has joined the list of Nigerians faulting the concentration of administrative powers at the Central government, calling for the State and Local governments to play a very significant part in the governance structure of the country.
The state governor made this call on Wednesday at the opening ceremony at the Bauchi Center of the Zonal public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution.
Bala Mohammed said the current move to review Nigeria's Constitution will now afford the country the rare opportunity of making the devolution of powers a reality.
Amidst the worsening security situation in the country, the Bauchi State governor said it is now important that the idea of State Police sees the light of day, adding that measures to check abuse by state governors also be put in place.
The national zonal public hearings on the review of the 1999 Constitution is holding at 12 Centres across the six geopolitical zones.
