Breaking: Fayemi emerges NGF chair
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has been elected, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, with Gov Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state as the Vice Chairman.
The governors will lead their colleagues, till May 2021.
In a unanimous decision at the Forum's meeting on Wednesday night in Abuja, the forum members collectively arrived at the decision.
Outgone Chairman of the forum, Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state said the forum also expressed concern over the recent guidelines issued by the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, which seeks to impose restrictions on the powers of states.
Yari said governors believe that the restrictions would be detrimental to Basic Universal Education Programme, Primary Health Care, as well as payment of Primary School Teachers in the states.
He said the governors also deliberated on the issue of National Security situation and resolved to hold a meeting with the President to find real and lasting solutions to the security challenges facing the country.
Accepting the mandate, governor Fayemi pledged to build on the achievement of his predecessors and sustain success stories of the forum.
With his election, Governor Fayemi becomes the seventh chairman of the forum and the first governor from the southwest to hold the office.
