Pension: NUP Southwest Declares Support for Sanwo
The Nigeria Union of Pension in the Southwest Zone has thrown its weight behind the moves by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu to scrap payment of pension to former Governors and their deputies.
Rising from a meeting of Chairmen and Secretaries of the Union in the region, the leaders equally accused Governors of contravening the provisions of the law as regard issues on pension.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the Secretary of the Union in Oyo state, Comrade Olusegun Abatan who read the communiqué of the meeting said the decision of Sanwoolu is in tandem with the reality on ground adding that other Governors should follow suit.
The Union described a situation where former Governors, deputies and others are being paid while those who labour for the development of the country, are neglected as criminal and should be looked into.
The pensioners in the southwest region equally condemned the clamped down on EndSARS protesters by security agencies as criminal adding that the EndSARS imbroglio is a sign that all is not well with the country.
The body appealed to the government to look into the demands by the youth and ensure that enabling environment is created for the youth and other Nigerians.
