FUNAAB Can Conveniently Feed Abeokuta.
The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB),Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, has said the University can conveniently feed Abeokuta and by extension the whole nation if some measures are put in place.
The Vice Chancellor also identifies paucity of funds, theft of farm produce, inadequate of manpower and dearth of necessary equipment as threat to food security in Nigeria.
Prof. Kehinde, said these at a press conference to herald the 31st Convocation ceremony of the institution, said the institution is taking step to revitalize agriculture sector in such a commercial quantity that will be sufficient for the country .
He said the university was committed to practical agriculture, explained that the institution is blessed with a 10, 200 hectares of land with which to realize its intention.
The VC further explained that the university was in the process of collaborating with the Federal, state government and other corporate organization's in the country to open up the virgin land within the institution’s campus to enable it contribute its quota to alleviate challenges of food scarcity in the country.
Speaking on the convocation ceremony, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, the Vice Chancellor, said that 122 students of the institution would be graduating with First Class.
Kehinde stated that the institution had turned out well baked graduate, saying that the school had continued to embark on teaching, research and community engagement.
He further said research activities have been intensified with academic staff accessing the TETFund Institutional-Based Research Grant of about N185m.
