The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG has called for the revitalization of the country's three main refineries located in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna.

The National President of NUPENG, Williams Akporeha stated this at the end of the Central Working Committee meeting of the union held in Lagos.

Akporeha who lauded the willingness of the Federal Government to ensure all three refineries are working in full working capacity before 2022, urged the government to match its words with action.

He frowned at the use of mostly private depot to distribute NNPC products as opposed to government-owned ones.

The NUPENG boss, therefore, called for the restoration of various strategic depots like those in Ore, Benin, Jos, Markurdi, Gusau, Suleja and Aba.

The union also attributes poor distribution of petroleum products to poor road infrastructure. This he said has made traversing the country by tanker drivers a strenuous experience. Some of the roads listed include Bida-Mokwa-Jebba road, Oyo-Ogbomosho road, Benin-Warri road, Enugu-Onitsha road among others.

NUPENG also condemned the anti-labour stance by some oil and gas companies against unionization of contract workers. It demanded an end to multiple fragmentations of staff contracts and non-implementation of rulings by Industrial Arbitration Panels.

The union expressed worry over the spate of insecurity in the country saying as long as the situation persists, it will continue to scare investors. NUPENG also called for the swift passage of the Petroleum Industrial Bill.
